Not today, sweetheart

There was that book
from the wild and
thrusting seventies called
“The day used to begin
with a bullet wound”

One of your favorites

But I’ve had enough
of those wounds, so
the answer is “Not
today, sweetheart”

– Johannes Beilharz

No persons were wounded in the making of this poem.
Also, it does not refer to any particular sweetheart.
However, it does refer to an actual book, Früher begann der Tag mit einer Schußwunde, by the German writer Wolf Wondratschek, published in 1969.
